May 2016, Day 8, Hakuho v Kotoyuki

Harite (face slap) with the left hand at the tachiai. Followed immediately with a strong right shoulder that puts Kotoyuki way off line and headed for the exit. Kotoyuki turns around just in time to receive a couple of stiff arms to the head and neck, and he’s out. Disappointed, Kotoyuki wants to stand and contemplate his loss for a moment, but Hakuho pulls him back in and sends him on his way with a shove – there’s no pouting in sumo. There are a few boos from the crowd, given the controversy over Hakuho’s henka last tournament, but in my opinion he made enough contact to give Kotoyuki a fighting chance.
