May 2016, Day 12, Kotoshogiku v Kakuryu

Kotoshogiku is mathematically out of the title hunt this tournament, but he still needs his eight wins to prevent kadoban status and the risk of losing his Ozeki rank next time. So he really takes it to Yokozuna Kakuryu. Despite taking a blow to the chin from Kakuryu’s head at the tachiai, he bulls forward and nullifies Kakuryu’s left-handed belt grip with relentless pressure. Kakuryu drops to 9-3, and is now also mathematically eliminated from the championship race.
