July 2016, Day 8, Hakuho v Shohozan

Numbers-wise, Hakuho’s been as dominant this tournament as you’d expect. But he’s been winning going backwards more often than usual, resorting to pulling and dodging techniques under the pressure of his opponents’ attacks. I don’t know if this means Kisenosato has a chance when they meet head-to-head later this tournament, but it makes for interesting speculation. Hakuho beats Shohozan today to stay steady at 7-1, even with fellow Yokozuna Harumafuji, Ozeki Kisenosato, and Komusubi Takayasu.
