July 2016, Day 9, Hakuho v Ikioi

Up is down, black is white, night is day, banana is pumpernickel! Hakuho loses so rarely that when it happens it’s always surprising. After a soft tachiai against Ikioi he resorts again to pulling backwards, and his opponent looks completely gobsmacked to still be standing. Ikioi extends both his arms with a look of terror on his face, like he’s trying to express some kind of psychic energy to repel the Yokozuna’s next attack. But what follows is oh so mundane, and Hakuho the human being stubs his toe on the dirt and loses his footing, and all Ikioi has to do is not screw it up. Hakuho drops his second loss, falling out of the tournament lead for the time being.
