November 2016, Day 10, Goeido v Kotoshogiku

Goeido’s hanging in there, hoping beyond hope for a collapse by Yokozuna Kakuryu. All he can do is win his own bouts until their head-to-head meeting sometime in the last five days. He beats Kotoshogiku at his own game on Day 10, getting a left hand inside and using his right to clamp down on Kotoshogiku’s left, preventing Kotoshogiku from equalizing the position. With a strong base, and without overextending his balance, he walks out Kotoshogiku for a record of 7-3, three losses behind the leader.
