January 2017, Day 1, Takanoiwa v Ishiura

Ishiura’s great performance in November puts him up at the M9 rank for the January tournament, where he’ll face a new level of competition that will truly test his ability. He stays nice and low against M10 Takanoiwa, giving up the right overarm grip in order to keep his head in Takanoiwa’s chest, but Takanoiwa marches Ishiura all the way to the edge of the ring. When Ishiura’s right foot plants against the straw bales he doesn’t have the strength to stop Takanoiwa’s momentum, and he crumples under the force of the attack. Takanoiwa wins by abisetaoshi (backward force down).
