January 2017, Day 8, Shohozan v Kotoshogiku

Kotoshogiku is in real trouble, finishing Day 8 with a poor 2-6 record even before facing any Ozeki or Yokozuna. After a brief bit of hand fighting at the tachiai, Shohozan and Kotoshogiku lock up in an interesting position – each man with his hands clasped together, each with an armlock on the opponent’s left arm. Kotoshogiku uses his size advantage to work Shohozan towards the edge, but he leans too far forward and lets Shohozan twist his torso sideways and use the armlock to throw Kotoshogiku off the dohyo. One extra step by Kotoshogiku and he probably would have been fine.
