January 2017, Day 9, Hokutofuji v Endo

After a massive, thudding tachiai, both wrestlers go for the face. But it’s Hokutofuji who comes out victorious, his left hand lifting Endo’s chin and his right hand pushing on Endo’s midsection. Endo is too upright to defend, and Hokutofuji’s finishing position is rock-solid. Hokutofuji is in a 5-way tie for second place, one loss behind the tournament leaders after nine days, less than two years after entering professional sumo and in only his second tournament in the top division.
