January 2017, Day 10, Shohozan v Arawashi

Textbook-perfect example of a tottari (arm bar throw) by Arawashi today, kids, take notes. Shohozan hits him in the face at the tachiai, but Arawashi is unfazed and reaches for the left-hand overarm belt grip. When his left hand slips off he immediately transitions into an attack on Shohozan’s left arm. Wrapping both of his arms around Shohozan’s and keeping the arm tight against his chest, he twists his torso, sending Shohozan sailing over his hip. Shohozan lands hard on his back, but that’s better than losing an arm.
