January 2017, Day 11, Kakuryu v Kotoshogiku

Yokozuna Kakuryu drops out of the tournament due to injury, giving Kotoshogiku a much-needed mark in the win column. Kotoshogiku, finishing the day at 4-7, will need to win out in order to protect his Ozeki rank. Currently on kadoban (probation) status due to his 5-10 record last tournament, a losing record will mean demotion next time out. Unlike the lower ranks, Ozeki get one chance after a losing tournament before losing the rank.
