January 2017, Day 12, Tamawashi v Kotoshogiku

Kotoshogiku is overcome with emotion after losing his eighth bout of the tournament. After a 5-10 record in November, this means he’ll be demoted from the rank of Ozeki, a position he’s held for just over five years. He has a hard time holding it together ringside – I’m sure he would have liked to escape to the locker room, but he can’t leave the ring judge unaccompanied during the final bout, so he has to stay. Disappointing result in the new year for the Ozeki who won his first tournament championship just last year.
