January 2017, Day 13, Hokutofuji v Arawashi

Arawashi leaps to the side at the tachiai with a move known as “henka,” hoping to pull the unwitting Hokutofuji to the dirt in the first second of the bout. But Hokutofuji’s balance is good and he plants his right foot, charging forward into the now poorly positioned Arawashi. Hokutofuji’s right arm is attacking Arawashi’s chin, which leaves his elbow right up against Arawashi’s chest. So Arawashi grabs with both hands onto Hokotofuji’s right arm, using it as leverage to escape out the side and sling Hokutofuji off the dohyo for the tottari (arm bar throw) win.
