January 2017, Day 13, Kisenosato v Goeido

Goeido injured his right leg yesterday against Endo, so he drops out of the January Tournament on Day 13 with an 8-4 record. His opponent today, Ozeki Kisenosato, will gladly take another mark in the win column to protect his one-loss record at 12-1. Kisenosato’s remaining two bouts will be M13 Ichinojo, who’s crushed the competition in the bottom half of the division and has amassed a 10-3 record, and Yokozuna Hakuho on the final day, in a bout that will likely determine the tournament champion. Mathematically, there are still five wrestlers with a shot at the title: Ozeki Kisenosato, Yokozuna Hakuho, M10 Takanoiwa, M13 Ichinojo, and either Komusubi Takayasu or M10 Sokokurai, one of whom will be eliminated at four losses in their head-to-head bout tomorrow.
