January 2017, Day 14, Tamawashi v Arawashi

Tamawashi pulls off a technique not often seen on the blog, sokubiotoshi, or “head chop down.” It looks like it sounds. Tamawashi keeps Arawashi off his belt with a few stiff arms to the head, but Arawashi slaps Tamawashi’s arms to the side and tries to come in from a different angle. Tamawashi isn’t having it and lays a heavy paw on the back of Arawashi’s head, pushing him down to the clay. Tamawashi wins his ninth bout from the Sekiwake rank (one below Ozeki), and Arawashi falls to 5-9.
