March 2017, Day 14, Kotoshogiku v Terunofuji

Kotoshogiku’s hopes of a quick return to the rank of Ozeki go tumbling off the dohyo as he earns his sixth loss against tournament leader Terunofuji. The crowd is displeased with the Ozeki’s henka at the tachiai, which sees him jump out of the way of Kotoshogiku and avoid any direct contact whatsoever. Terunofuji sits alone atop the leaderboard with a record of 13-1, and his bout tomorrow against Yokozuna Kisenosato will determine the tournament champion (assuming Kisenosato can compete).
